Why I’m Alive

I always get to work like 30 minutes early.  Not because I want to, but because if I don’t leave at a certain time, it’ll take me twice as long to get there.  So during those 30 minutes, I sit in my car and hang out with God.  And you know what?  I might even start taking a journal with me and using that time to write.  Then later I could put it up on here.  Unless it’s rambly and pointless like most of my hand-written journal entries are.  In which case, I won’t.

12-year-old girl speaks out about Abortion

Meet Lia. She’s a 12-year-old seventh grader that recently decided to make a courageous stand in her school by giving a persuasive speech on the topic of abortion. Even when her teachers strongly encouraged her to choose a different topic, she decided to stick with what she felt passionate about. An email from her mother describes what led Lia to make such a bold move.

If you want to LEAD, learn to LOVE.

We all want to see and meet and know people who are real. Christians and non-Christians alike want to see people who say what they mean and mean what they say.  We don’t have to look very far to find good teachers and preachers and leaders and experts who can tell us a great many things about anything we want to know.  But I think what we want even more is to find leaders who live out that message they preach.  We want to find leaders whose lives speak even louder than their words.

One of the Strongest Women I Know

Women are strong creatures.  God made us with a strength that is so much different than the strength He’s given to men.  Today, I want to celebrate that strength by introducing you to one of the strongest women I know.

Do you recognize this picture?  Possibly from all of my unnecessary posts on the messiness of my desk?  Well, today I want to introduce you to that beautiful woman in the frame.  She is my Grandma, Madeline.  The above picture was taken when my Grandma was still a teenager, living on the farm in Missouri and attending a sort-of dance/Prom at school.

God’s Gals

As promised, we’re going to take a look at a few powerful women.  Women that are powerful by being women — not by trying to be men.

First off, let me apologize for bringing politics back onto this blog.  Well, actually…. I’m really not that sorry.  Government is important.  I am, however, sorry if you the two women I’m about to present to you are not from your political party.  Is that better?

I have a confession to make.

In honor of my new feminine background, I’m going to get something off my chest.  Something that involves lipstick and high heels.  Is that ok with you?

The address by which you found me is handsfrozentothesword, is it not?  This address — or title, if you will, is derived from 2 Samuel 23:10, which references one of David’s mighty men who… stood his ground and struck down the Philistines until his hands grew tired and froze to the sword. Just typing that verse alone causes my heart to do cartwheels.  There’s something relentless about that title.  It’s a title that means business.  It’s aggressive.  It doesn’t back down.  It’s war-like.  Now, I know that by mentioning war, I’ve caused some strong opinions and viewpoints to rise within your heart.  But rest assured — I’m not a gun-toting, violent, feminist, angry kind of gal.  And that’s what I want to get off my chest.
